Updates From the Nationals Office

usra.gif (17346 bytes)

The USRA National Board voted to eliminate the position of Junior Regional Coordinators and instead is requesting that all states choose a state junior commissioner to help jump start increased participation of Juniors Nationwide.  The Connecticut Junior Commissioner is Ed Mazur.  He can be reached at (860)677-5814.

In an effort to reduce financial burdens on families, the USRA Board also voted to eliminate Junior Regional Tournaments as the qualifying event for Junior Nationals.  Instead State Championships will be used as the qualifying event.   However, regions may elect to run a Junior Regional.  For the record, Connecticut will be hosting the Northeast Junior Regionals in Connecticut in March 2000.

The USRA Board also voted to eliminate two Regions from the Adult Regional Tournaments.  One of the regions eliminated was New York/New Jersey.  That means we will have more players from the New York area participating in the New England Adult Regionals.  The site and the tournament directors have not been chosen yet for the New England region.  We will keep you posted.  Click here for the upcoming schedule.

Connecticut to host Regional Doubles!  That's right!  Regional Doubles is back and we are hosting in Connecticut.  Two sites will be used:  Downtown Health & Racquet in New Haven and Healthworks in Wallingford.  Get out your racquets and find yourself a doubles partner.  The tournament is being held September 24 - 26, 1999.  Be There!

Here is something no one can complain about!

Discounts on tournament entry fees!

1.  Mail your entry with a check - if you don't mail in the entry with a check there is no discount.

2.  Include a note telling us which discount should be applied.

  • Married Couples:  If you're married and both playing two (2) events, you each receive a $10.00 discount.
  • College Students:  If you are a Full-time college student with a current ID, your first event is $20.00 and your second event is $10.00.
  • Players making a comeback or 1st time tournament players:  Providing you are playing two (2) events, you will get your second event free.  You must however pay the $5.00 referee fee for the second event.  That means it will cost you a grand total of $40.00 for two (2) events.   With the required USRA membership fee, your weekend will cost you $60.00.  A mere $5.00 more than playing in two (2) events without a discount.
